EDIRNE TOUR

Edirne was the second capital city. After conquering in 1361, Ottoman capital city was transferred here from Bursa. During this period population increased quickly until Istanbul was conquered by Mehmet II. This short capital period (88 years) was left behind a lof of mosques, hamams (baths), bridges, covered bazaars, towers...etc. Now, Edirne is a border city and is located the meeting point of the Tunca, Arda and Meric Rivers. You will overlook remains from deep culture of Ottoman.

Eski (old) Mosque, the oldest mosque in Edirne, is famous with big works of calligraphy on front side.

Uc Serefeli Mosque, is second biggest mosque after Selimiye, the name means "tree balconied".

Selimiye Mosque, is the most impressived monument of Ottoman architecture style. It was built in 1569-75 by Mimar Sinan who described this mosque as "This is the work of my mastership".

Main dome diameter is 31,30m and 43,28m high. 4 minarets each have tree balconies which is reached by a seperate stairways within minaret.

Semiz Ali Pasha Arasta Bazaar, is 300 m and has 130 rooms, 6 gates. It was built by Mimar Sinan in 1569.

Meric Bridge, is 263 m lenght and connect between Karaagac village and the city center. I was built by Sultan Abdulmecit in 1842.

Beyazit Kulliye & Health Museum, is near the Tunca River, the largest Ottoman spritual and physical welfare complex. There was a medical center, which is converted into a "Health Museum", in the complex. You can get to know the development of medical science (specialy mental illness) of Ottoman.

Tower Gate, is also known as Makedonia Tower, Fire Tower, Clock Tower. Actualy this manument was the one of four tower of the Edirne Castle. Then it was converted into a clock tower which was burn by a fire.
